Project Title Carbon Dioxide Reduction with Abundant Catalysts

Bio
Bolin Lin received his bachelor degree in Chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). There he did some computational research on the mechanisms of Ni and Pd-catalyzed Heck reactions as well as substituent effects on bond dissociation energies. He then joined Caltech for his PhD degree and completed his thesis work on C-H bond activation of hydrocarbons under the guidance of Professor John Bercaw. He is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the Stack lab and will join ShanghaiTech University, a research university in the making, as a faculty member at the end of 2013.

Research Summary
The CMAD research was focused on catalytic development and mechanistic investigation of chemical reactions for the reduction of CO2 with earth-abundant metal catalysts. Under the joint supervisions of Prof. Stack and Prof. Chidsey, efforts were made to turn the reduction electrocatalytically.
