Stanford University, Lecturer of Chemistry (#28977)
The Stanford Chemistry Department invites applications for a Ph.D.-level Lecturer position to begin September 1, 2025 to join a team of 4 other Lecturers in the Department. The candidate should have a strong background in any area of chemistry and a passion for teaching. This position is a full-time, 9-month, fixed-term, full-benefit appointment, with the possibility of optional summer teaching opportunities. The initial appointment is for 2 years, with the potential for reappointment terms of 3 years. The teaching duties vary quarterly between instructing independent laboratories to co-instructing in an integrated lecture/laboratory course with a faculty member, generally within the general, organic, and bio-chemistry courses. As the department has moved toward active learning, the ideal candidate will also be involved in developing and evaluating new active learning materials. In addition to instruction, the candidate will be responsible for evolving laboratory exercises, mentoring course teaching assistants, and participating in Department committees, as appropriate. The expected pay range for this position is $85,000 to $97,000 per annum. Carleton College, Assistant Professor of Chemistry
The Chemistry Department at Carleton College seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research with undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment. We seek candidates with expertise in experimental physical chemistry, including those with interdisciplinary interests. We are particularly interested in candidates who can help further our community and teaching goals in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect. A completed Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field with postdoctoral experience is preferred, but all applicants who will complete their Ph.D. by September 2025 will be considered.
The position will involve teaching five courses per year within our trimester system, including regular contributions to the “Principles of Chemistry” series and upper-level physical chemistry (initially Chemical Thermodynamics or Quantum Chemistry, with the expectation of eventually sharing the responsibility of teaching both courses) as well as laboratories in experimental physical chemistry. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop an advanced course related to their areas of expertise. All laboratory courses benefit from the support of skilled technical staff.
