“Towards 3D biomimetic electronic interfaces”

About the Speaker

Dr. Santoro graduated in Biomedical Engineering and she holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. She pursued her doctoral studies in a joint project between Forschunszentrum Juelich and RWTH Aachen in Germany, working on the optimization of biointerfaces for human-chip coupling. She was a PhD scholarship winner in the International Helmholtz Research School of Biophysics and Soft Matter from 2011 to 2014.  From 2014 to 2017, she was a postdoctoral scholar in Chemistry at Stanford University, working on advanced 3D biointerfaces focusing on nanostructure design and developing a method to visualize cells and tissues in contact with ‘artificial’ devices. In 2016, she received a fellowship from the (American) Hearth Rhythm Society. Since 2017, she has been leading the Tissue Electronics Lab and she is a tenure-track researcher at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Italy.  Among several national and international awards, she was awarded the MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 in Europe and Italy in 2018.
