Professor John I. Brauman was a distinguished scientist, beloved mentor, and esteemed member of our faculty.

His illustrious career earned him numerous awards, most notably the 2002 National Medal of Science. He is recognized by his peers as a warm and wise educator who was a catalyst for collaboration and attracted many others to the department over the course of his 50-plus years at Stanford. Celebrating a life in chemistry, the fund honors John’s collaborative spirit while advancing a key departmental priority of introducing new research perspectives by convening top chemical talent.

Join us in honoring Professor Brauman by making a contribution to the John I. Brauman Visiting Scholar Fund

In a 2013 oral history conducted by Susan Schofield at the Stanford Historical Society, Professor John Brauman reflected: “...there’s no doubt in my mind that my scientific successes, if you want to call them that, are very related to being at an institution that both had the resources and qualities that made it possible for these things to happen - colleagues, students, physical resources, reputation, whatever you want to say, and I really am immensely grateful to the place for providing me with the opportunity to do what I did….So, I think it matters that I was at Stanford.”
