2021 Physical Chemistry Division Awards

Congratulations to Professor Tom Markland on receiving the 2021 Early-Career Award in Theoretical ChemistryThe American Chemical Society Physical Chemistry Division awards in theoretical and experimental physical chemistry are intended to recognize the most outstanding scientific achievements of members of the Division. The 2021 recipients will be honored at the the Fall ACS National Meeting in Atlanta.

Tom joined Stanford in 2011 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2018. His research group's interests lie broadly in the development of theoretical and simulation approaches and their application to explain effects observed in the classical and quantum dynamics of chemical systems. In particular, they focus on problems at the interface of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics, with applications ranging from chemistry and biology to geology and materials science.
