Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Scientist will be a contributing member of a multi-disciplinary drug discovery team focused on developing novel therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.  The candidate will be responsible for the design and synthesis of novel molecules with a prescribed biological and physical chemical profile.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Scientist will exercise a broad working knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry coupled with strong problem-solving skills to design and synthesize molecules for biologically testing.  The Scientist will be expected to integrate the collected data to inform the design of subsequent molecules that will possess increasingly optimal qualities.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Developing a strong foundation in medicinal chemistry principles, structure-activity relationship (SAR), pharmacokinetics (PK/ADME) and their application to molecule design
  • Developing an awareness of physical chemical and drug like properties and their impact on the developability of molecules as drug candidates
  • Effective contributions to patent filings, internal reports, and external scientific publications
  • Clear and effective communications to describe conditions, results, and problems to other members of the department and the wider organization

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry and have conducted post-doctoral research on a synthetic or bioorganic project.  Exceptional candidates without post-doctoral experience are also encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will possess excellent problem-solving skills as evidenced by a robust publication record.  The role demands a highly goal-driven approach and the ability to rapidly achieve time-sensitive objectives in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Industry experience a plus.
