Chemistry Staff Walk the Walk

Walk it Out

Each Wednesday, dozens of staff members in the Chemistry Department participate in a brisk 45-minute walk around the Stanford campus.

The group, led by Kathi Robbins, has explored many of Stanford’s hidden gems, including the Cactus Garden, the Stanford Mall, Lake Lagunita, BeWell Community Gardens and the Stables. Walks give staff members the opportunity to get outside, socialize as a group, learn more about the campus and get a little exercise.

Setting Goals

These Wednesday Walks are one of three goals set by participants in Stanford’s Healthy Work Environment (HWE) program at the beginning of the spring quarter. HWE is a customized 10-week program that co-workers create and complete together. Those who meet all of the goals in one quarter receive a $100 incentive. Goals for this quarter include:

1. Get Active. Participate in six out of the ten brisk 45-minute walks around campus during lunchtime on Wednesdays.

2. Exercise. Participate in physical activity (at least 30 minutes/week) outside of the Wednesday Walks.

3. Get Hydrated. Log liquid consumption to ensure you are drinking the recommended 48-64 ounces per day of water.

May the 4th be With You

On Thursday, May 4, 2017 the Chemistry Department will participate in BeWell’s 11th annual John Etchemendy Cardinal Walk, co-sponsored by Cardinal at Work.

As May 4th is Star Wars Day, participants will celebrate with a space-themed walk, complete with a moonwalking competition. Members of the Chemistry Department will carry light sabers and wear red t-shirts to commemorate the special occasion.

If you are interested in participating, please email Kathi Robbins at krobbins [at] stanford.edu (krobbins[at]stanford[dot]edu).
