K–5

We are expanding!

Contact the K–5 program.

The Chemistry Department is excited to announce a new K-5 branch of their Inspiring Future Scientists program. Our goal is to provide elementary school classrooms in the South Bay with hands-on demonstrations to build excitement and enthusiasm for science among students. These lessons will be designed and given by Stanford undergraduate and graduate researchers.

These hour-long science lessons will showcase various scientific principles. The demonstrations will be hands-on, and will actively engage students with questions posed throughout the lesson. Deductive reasoning and creative thinking are actively encouraged. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions about life as a scientist, showing that a career in science is within reach.

We will start off with a number of previously developed demonstrations, but there is ample opportunity for volunteers to develop new lessons for different age groups. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you’re interested in participating in this program, either as a K-5 classroom or as a volunteer!
